Fractional CTO Retainer
Senior IT leadership on a monthly retainer: strategy, oversight, vendor management, governance and execution without the fixed cost of a full-time CTO.
What this covers →Fractional CTO · Centurion, South Africa
Most advisors hand you a slide deck. We hand you eight working platforms, and you can sign into every one of them from this page before we ever talk about a retainer.
Built for South African and UK businesses running an IT estate they have outgrown: an ERP decision to make, multiple sites to join up, or a systems landscape nobody owns end to end.
A 22-rooftop group across ten territories

Click any platform: every screen above is a real one from its public demo.
The proof, not the pitch
We designed, built and still run every one of them. DealerPulse is our flagship; the other seven show the same approach in other industries. Switch screens below, then sign in and explore, or go straight to the live demo hub.
Sales, stock, forecasting and group reporting for every dealer, region and brand, live, down to the individual VIN, from one sign-in. In the demo you're running a 22-rooftop group across ten territories.
Sales · Forecasting · Stock & Trade Pool · Insights · Market & Rebates · Reporting & CRM

Insights: attainment, stock at risk and the dealers that need attention.
Monte Carlo retirement modelling for advisers. The demo carries six client plans, each with a projection produced by the real engine, including two that don't hold, because those are the ones worth showing.

A client scenario: assets, allocation and 1,000-path Monte Carlo runs.
The UK edition: HMRC bands and personal allowance in the simulation loop, State Pension captured from a gov.uk forecast, and funds classified by IA sector and SEDOL. Six sterling client plans, real engine output.

A sterling drawdown scenario, run through the same engine.
A training portal for when you have to prove your people are trained. Courses from PDF, video, PowerPoint or SCORM; quiz-gated completion; automatic certificates; and a compliance dashboard that answers who is overdue.

Portal Admin: learners, assignments and who is overdue.
Competence and CPD tracking for regulated businesses. Every deadline is derived from the representative's date of first appointment, so the register recalculates itself. In the demo you're the Key Individual on an FSP licence with sixteen people on it.

Key Individual: the whole team's status, urgent items first.
Every contract, its signed copy and the date you must give notice by, plus the company's statutory obligations, from CIPC to POPIA, and who is formally appointed with each regulator. Owners, stakeholders, IT and Legal are emailed before it's too late, and the Assurance dashboard turns it all into attested packs for Exco, the auditors and each regulator. Eight industry packs add the dates for road freight, medical devices, medical practices, construction, private security, pharmacy, motor dealers and food, as drafts until an industry consultant has reviewed them. The demo runs a logistics company with eighteen contracts, a medical device distributor and a medical practice.

Administrator: what ends, what needs notice and what is overdue.
Group travel from enquiry to signed proposal: briefs, day-by-day itineraries built against graded venues, and a pipeline that shows which groups have gone quiet. Four roles, from agency owner down to the traveller.

Agency Owner: every group and where its proposal stands.
Online examination for certificates that have to mean something. Integrity is tiered per exam (open, monitored, or secure browser with camera enrolment) and flagged attempts go to a reviewer with the full event timeline.

Centre Admin: attempts, pass rate and the review queue.
These are screens from the public sandbox demos, so you're looking at demonstration data.
Why this matters to you
Those are eight live products. We designed, built, deployed and now operate every one of them, in production, most with real customers, under real regulatory pressure. That changes what our advice is worth.
Vendor lock-in, an integration that looked fine in the demo, a migration that ran long. We've paid for those lessons on our own balance sheet, not on yours.
We take no licence margin on SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Sage or any CRM. When we recommend a platform, the recommendation is the whole business case. There's nothing behind it.
Because we run the servers, carry the support load and pay the cloud bill ourselves. Estimates from people who have never operated a system are guesses in a spreadsheet.

What this covers →Tell us what's going on: an ERP decision, a cost that keeps climbing, a system nobody owns. We'll come back to you within one business day and tell you plainly whether we can help.
Start the conversationHow it runs
You tell us what's going on. We ask what you're running, what it costs and where it hurts, and we tell you plainly whether we can help. No sales deck.
A written view of priorities, sequencing and cost, with the trade-offs stated plainly. You'll know what we'd do first and why.
We stay accountable for delivery: vendor governance, architecture decisions and the board-level reporting that keeps technology on the agenda.
Straight answers
A fractional CTO is a senior technology executive engaged part-time on a retainer rather than employed full-time. You get board-level technology leadership (strategy, architecture decisions, vendor governance and delivery oversight) at a fraction of the cost of a permanent CTO, which for most South African mid-sized businesses is the difference between having that capability and not having it.
A virtual CIO is usually supplied by your managed service provider and focuses on running the IT you already have. An IT consultant is typically engaged per project. A fractional CTO sits on the leadership side: accountable for technology strategy, spend and direction over time, and independent of any vendor selling you hardware, licences or ERP.
Every engagement is scoped to the work, so we quote after a first conversation. A fractional CTO runs as a monthly retainer; IT transformation, ERP and CRM advisory and cost optimisation are scoped engagements. Start the conversation and we will come back to you within one business day.
No. CostusWorx is vendor-neutral. We advise on SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Sage and CRM selection and implementation governance without earning a licence or reseller margin on the outcome, so the recommendation follows the business case rather than the commission.
